William Freeth was the first child of Samuel Freeth & Catherine Wilton born at Smethwick & christened May 16th, 1858 at North Harborne, Staffs.
In 1861 William & his parents & younger brother Samuel were living at Brasshouse Lane, Smethwick.
The family were still living at Brasshouse Lane in 1871 & William now had 3 younger brothers & a younger sister.
By 1881 William had moved north to Middlesbrough, N. Yorks where he was working as an iron moulder. He was lodging with Sarah & James Woods at 5 Crown St, Middlesbrough.
William was not found in the 1891 census but by 1900 he had moved to Lancashire. Here he married Alice Littler on January 2nd, 1900 at Wigan. Alice was christened February 18th, 1866 at Wigan, Lancs, the daughter of Ann & James Littler, a mechanic.
In 1901 William & Alice were living at 13 Victoria Avenue, Wigan & William was a pig iron moulder. They had a daughter Annie, aged 10 months.
William & Alice were still living at the same address in 1911 & William continued to be an iron moulder at an engineering works. They now had 3 children – Annie, Leonard (9) & Albert (7).
Son Leonard married Mary Agnes Ashton in 1928 in Wigan.
William died in July-September 1936 at Wigan.
Alice died in July-September 1938, aged 72, at Wigan.
The 1939 register shows son Leonard & his wife Agnes were living at 11 The Avenue, Standish with Langtree, Lancashire. Leonard was an engine tester with Walker Bros. Son Albert & daughter Annie were both unmarried & still living at 13 Victoria Avenue, Wigan. Albert was a general labourer for the LM&S railway & Annie was a dress sewing machinist.
